The Pequot Library's Beyond the Book Club will host a Sept. 9 program on the wives of four leaders with pivotal roles in World War I.

The program, set for 3 p.m. in the library's reading room, will focus on Mary, wife of King George V of Great Britain; Augusta Victoria, wife of Kaiser Wilhelm II of Germany; Alexandra, wife of Tsar Nicholas II of Russia, and Zita, wife of Emperor Karl of Austria.

Mona Garcia will lead the discussion. Garcia taught European history at the college level; has presented conference papers in the United States and Great Britain, and published in her field of English history, one of which has been included in the "Bibliography of British and Irish History."

On Sept. 16 at 11:30 a.m., the book club will host a discussion comparing a historical fiction novel, "Maisie Dobbs" by Jacqueline Winspear with a biography of a woman from one of England's oldest families, the Sackvilles, titled "The Bolter" by Frances Osborne. The discussion will be led by Marianne Pysarchyk.

There is no charge for either program.
