It was chilly outside but red hot in the auditorium at the Pequot Library Saturday afternoon when Music for Youth presented the Hot Club of Detroit gypsy jazz ensemble. The room -- a full house -- rocked as the band's five members, led by founder Evan Perri, played sax, two acoustic guitars, an upright bass and accordion.
The band played music from some of its four CD releases including their newest, "Junction," released in 2012, gripping the audience with its lively fusion of musical styles. The group also raffled off a copy of its latest release.
The concert, part of the monthly free Young Persons' Concert series sponsored by Music for Youth, also offered classes with band members following the performance.
The next concert in the Music for Youth series will feature violinist Bella Hristova on Saturday, Jan. 11. Visit www.musicforyouth.net for more information and for a calendar of upcoming Young Persons Concerts.
