Pequot Library plans to kick off the summer reading season with its annual Potluck Dinner and Campout Friday evening, June 8, on the library lawn.

The dinner is planned for 6:30 p.m., and anyone may bring a dish and participate, the library said. The family event will include live music by the Merwin Mountain Band and a new activity Pequot is billing as the big pillow fight.

Attendees may pitch tents on the lawn and camp out overnight, but that's not necessary to participate, the library said.

During the evening, Pequot staff will announce details of its children's and adult summer reading programs.

The big pillow fight is scheduled for 9 p.m., and combatants should bring their own weapons -- the softer the better, the library said.

The Pequot plans to have a campfire for toasting s'mores. Later, those spending the night can retire to their tents and sleeping bags.
