Pequot Library will get into the holiday-shopping swing with its second annual Black Friday/Saturday Book Sale.

The sale is planned Friday, Nov. 29, and Saturday, Nov. 30, featuring what Pequot said would be more than 5,000 new and "gently used books on a wide variety of topics. The sale is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.

The retail industry refers to the day after Thanksgiving as "Black Friday" because it launches a holiday-shopping reason that many retailers hope will move their year-end finances from the red into the black.

Unlike the frantic holiday scene at most shopping malls, the library said in a news release, the book sale would be a "peaceful environment" and money spent on gifts would remain in the community.

Pequot said books topics would include: art, biography, children's, cookbooks, crafts, fiction, gardening, history, maritime, military, religion and philosophy, seasonal books, seasonal music and transportation.

Also on sale will be coffee table books and signed books.

Proceeds from the sale will help fund the library's programs for children, adults and the community, according to the release.
