FAIRFIELD — Two local Democrats — one a veteran party member and the other a more recent activist — will be honored Sunday at the annual Century Club brunch of the Fairfield Democratic Town Committee.

The event will take place at noon in the Patterson Club, 1118 Cross Highway.

Ellery Plotkin will receive the Eunice Postol Award, recognizing longtime community service, and Eric Newman will be presented the Denise Dougiello "Young Turk" Award that cites a newer town committee member’s contributions.

Plotkin, a lawyer with the firm of Cacace, Tusch & Santagata in Stamford, was elected to the Representative Town Meeting from 1993 to 2003 from District 7, and served as its assistant moderator and majority leader. He also was appointed to the Parks and Recreation Commission, and was its chairman for seven of the 10 years he served on the panel.

Plotkin has also been the town committee’s chairman, and is now a member of the Penfield Building Committee.

Newman, the treasury manager for the Stamford controller’s office, has served three terms on Representative Town Meeting. Over the last seven years, he has been treasurer for 12 committees of Democratic candidates running for town and state legislative offices.

He also is a member of the Fairfield PTA Council and is the co-chairman of Jewish Family Services.

Tickets to the Democratic Town Committee’s brunch cost $100 each; underwriter contributions of $250/silver or $500/gold receive two tickets and acknowledgment in the event program.
