FAIRFIELD — Police are investigating the death of a 36-year-old Sturges Highway man they have termed as untimely, although foul play is not suspected.

The man was discovered by his wife around 4 p.m. on New Year’s Eve, after he had gone to take a nap. According to police, he was in good health, but had just started taking a new drug for irritable bowel syndrome. He had only taken two of the three daily doses he had been prescribed.

When his wife went to check on him, she found him lying in bed, not breathing. She dialed 911, and a Westport police officer who was nearby responded and immediately began CPR.

Police are awaiting the results of an autopsy.
