Police are investigating a complaint filed by a local woman who said she brought $19,000 worth of gold jewelry to Gold America LLC for repair, appraisal and sale in July.
The woman said she never received payment from the sale of the jewelry, which included a Rolex watch, from the company at 1210 Post Road, which is now closed. She said she attempted to make contact with the owner, Marvin Newman, who said he sold the items for $1,150 and he would send her a check, according to police. That check was never received.
Police were unable to contact Newman, who has a New York address, via phone. According to the report, Newman has been arrested previously for issuing bad checks and there is an outstanding warrant for his arrest for failure to appear.
