Police are investigating a single-car accident last Thursday afternoon on Morehouse Highway near Congress Street.
No charges have been filed yet in connection with the 1 p.m. accident.
The driver, a 45-year-old Blue Bell Lane resident, told police she was moving a pair of eyeglasses from the center console to the passenger seat when she hit the curb and drove off the road for more than 40 feet. The car traveled through dense foliage, according to the report, and struck a utility pole, snapping it in half and pushing it 12 feet out of position.
The report stated there was an odor of alcohol on the driver, and her eyes appeared to be glassy and bloodshot. She was taken to St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Bridgeport as a precaution.
A check of the vehicle’s registration by police showed the car’s license plate belonged on another vehicle.
Morehouse Highway was closed for several hours following the accident.
