Rachel Ranney, 31, of Davidson Street in Bridgeport, was arrested and charged with fifth-degree larceny Monday at 2:20 p.m. for allegedly leaving Stop & Shop, 1160 Kings Highway Cutoff, with $729 in unpaid groceries.
Police said that Ranney went in shopping, loaded a cart and walked right out the front door. She was spotted on video surveillance dropping one item into a charity donation on the way out, according to police. She was arrested in the parking lot and released on a promise to appear in court on Dec. 3.
