The left hand of a 63-year-old Fairfield woman was badly injured after a dump truck drove over it Saturday morning by the intersection of Kings Highway and Jennings Road.

Police said the woman, who lives on Soundview Avenue, was walking on the sidewalk about 8:30 a.m. when she walked into the street alongside construction vehicles in the travel portion of the road.

A dump truck leaving the former Brown Bros. construction site struck her and ran over her left hand after she fell down, police said.

The woman, who was not identified by police, suffered a "serious injury" to her hand and was taken to St. Vincent's Medical Center in Bridgeport for treatment.

She was issued a verbal warning for reckless use of a highway by a pedestrian; the dump truck driver was not charged, police said.
