Use of the Miller/Sanford street parking lot, reserved weekdays for downtown workers and rail commuters, will be disrupted by construction work planned this month.

The parking lot will be temporarily closed for milling and re-grading Saturday, according to the town’s Office of Community and Economic Development.

Some parking spaces may be affected by drainage work expected to precede the milling work. Final paving and re-striping is scheduled to be completed during the week of Aug. 24-28.

Parking permit holders are advised that weather and contractor availability may affect the initial schedule, town officials said.

Permit holders should use alternate parking during construction, officials said, although the parking lot will re-open for use during the period between the milling and paving phases of construction.

After the new paving is finished, the entire lot — including the first two rows previously set aside for commuter parking — will be reserved for downtown employees and 2-hour public parking.
