Police are investigating a burglary reported Wednesday by a Stratfield Road resident.
The incident occurred between 3:30 and 5:30 p.m. while the homeowner was working in the backyard. He said a short, heavyset, older white man approached him, and told him he worked for the town. He engaged the homeowner in a conversation about the replacement of an old sewer line.
After the man left, the homeowner told police that he found $4,500 in cash was been taken from a purse in an upstairs bedroom.
Police said the homeowner had no official indication that the suspect worked for the town, but took the man's word at face value.
