A representative of the Mercedes Benz dealership, 165 Commerce Drive, called police Tuesday to report a 2000 Mercedes CLK convertible was taken for a test drive Saturday, but not returned.

According to the report, the man who took the car has an ongoing relationship with the dealership and owns an auto body shop in Milford.

The dealership representative told police they had been texting back and forth with the man regarding the car's return, but said he continued to give excuses about bringing it back: He said he was stuck, the car had a flat tire and, finally, that it had been involved in an accident, according to the report.

Officers later found the car at the man's Milford business, and said there was front-end damage to the Mercedes.

The car was returned to the dealership, but police told the dealer that it will have to pursue restitution through civil channels.
