A Thor Place resident came to police headquarters this week to report that he is a victim of identity theft.
He said someone recently tried to open several accounts for new credit cards in his name and all the attempts, except for one at T.J. Maxx store in New York City, were unsuccessful. At the New York store, the thief used the card to purchase $1,000 in merchandise.
The Fairfield resident cancelled the card, and was able to obtain the phone number associated with it, police said. It was traced to an address in the Bronx, and the victim had his brother call the number. The man who answered the call identified himself using the Fairfield victim's name and address, according to the report.
