Andrew R. Russell, 29, of Sheridan Street, Bridgeport, was issued a summons for second-degree criminal mischief after a witness reported to police that he was tossing wooden planters into Kings Highway Cutoff on Saturday night.

The planters were taken from in front of Ganim's Garden Center, 320 Kings Highway Cutoff, according to the report, and the eight barrels thrown into the street were valued at a total of $800.

When officers arrived on the scene, they found a parked car that appeared to have broken down. They found Russell and two women walking nearby carrying a gas can. One of the women told police that Russell threw the planters because he was having a bad day and was upset that the car had run out of gas, according to police.

He was released on a promise to appear Friday in Bridgeport Superior Court.
