Robert R. Schwabe, 75, of Fairfield, died Dec. 25, 2010, at home.

A Fairfield resident for more than 30 years, he grew up in the Bronx and earned an economics degree from Hunter College, where he played on the basketball team.

He had been a finance executive employed by General Motors and Amax Inc. Until his death, he was a rural postal carrier in Weston.

He enjoyed spending time with his family, music, nature and traveling. Bob was the beloved husband of Carole and they were anticipating their 50th wedding anniversary in 2011. He and his wife frequented the Metropolitan Opera in New York for most of their married lives as well as Tanglewoods in the Berkshires. Bob had a tremendous appreciation for wildlife and loved all creatures great and small. He thoroughly enjoyed the outdoors and found peace and solitude in the mountains.

Survivors include his wife, Carole, of nearly 50 years; his children, John F. Schwabe of Jacksonville, Fla.; Robert W. Schwabe of Fairfield, and Karen L. Savoca of Newtown; four grandchildren, and extended family and friends.

A private service took place Dec. 30. Burial was in Oak Lawn Cemetery.
