Sacred Heart to present Polish musicians

Sacred Heart University's Polish Studies Fund will hold an evening of Polish music with singer Zuzanna Ducka, pianist and harpsichordist Magdalena Baczewska and cellist Marta Bedkowska-Reilly on Saturday, Feb. 2. It will be held at 7 p.m. in the school's Chapel of the Holy Spirit, 5151 Park Ave.
Ducka, a soprano, is a graduate of The Music Academy of Lodz, Poland, with a degree in vocal arts, according to a release. She has worked with conductors such as Paul McCreesh, JamesMcMillan, Jacek Kaspszyk and Andrzej Kosendiak as a soloist and performed with the La Tempesta early music ensemble and The Gabrieli Consort and Players.
Baczewska is a recipient of the Outstanding Achievement Award from the Polish Minister of Culture and laureate of the Award for Outstanding Polish Citizen Abroad, the release states. She began piano instruction at 5 years old and made her orchestra debut at 12. She has won international piano competitions and appeared worldwide as a solo artist and in orchestral performances.
Bedkowska-Reilly is an Enhanced Chancellor Fellow and a doctoral candidate at The Graduate Center of the City University of New York. She has studied under Marcy Rosen, Rocco Filippini, Natalia Gutman, Jacob Letainer and Ursula Oppens and received a Fulbright Commission and Italian and Polish government scholarships. She has appeared in most major concerts halls in New York City, Italy, France, the United Kingdom, Holland, Germany and Poland.
