Total Look Salons, hair stylists with locations in Southport and on Black Rock Turnpike, plans to double the size of its Southport salon and consolidate its operations there in the fall.

The salons now occupy the first floor of a two-story building at 3482 Post Road and a storefront at 2193 Black Rock Turnpike in the Old Navy shopping plaza.

By taking over the second floor of the Southport building, Total Look will double its space there to 4,500 square feet and have room to consolidate the cross-town operations under one roof, the company said.

Total Look has a total of 41 employees at its two locations and plans to add as many as six new jobs with the consolidation, according to Pamela Dvorak, a partner in the business.

Renovations to the Southport building are scheduled to begin late this month, the salon said in a news release. During construction, the Southport operations will move temporarily to the Black Rock Turnpike salon.

Southport renovations are expected to conclude in the late fall, and the salons' final consolidation there will follow, Dvorak said.

The hair salon will occupy the ground floor, while nail care, skin care and massage services will be offered on the second floor, according to the release. In addition to the spa services, Transformation Medical Spa will provide cosmetic medical treatments.

The reconfiguration of the business coincides with its 30th anniversary.

Owner Cher Anderson started Total Look Salons in 1984. She was Connecticut's first board-certified master colorist, according to the release, and the salons now have eight on their staffs.

Anderson opened Total Look Academy to train hairdressers in 2004. It is housed in the Southport salon.
