The Fairfield Police Athletic league has been joined this year by the Fairfield Beach Residents Association in organizing the annual sand sculpture contest as a tribute to the town's 375th birthday.

In addition to the normal prizes for the contest Sunday at Penfield Beach, the residents association will offer additional prizes to make this year's event more like a birthday party.

The contest will take place on the sandbar at Penfield Beach on Sunday, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Prizes will be awarded for the most artistic sculpture, the most realistic sculpture, and new for this year only, the best Fairfield 375th sculpture.

The event is open to amateurs who may register as teams or as individuals. Individual entrants must be 18 years old or under, and teams must include at least one member 18 or under.

Families are encouraged to enter as a team and work together on a creation. Only objects found in nature may be included in the sculpture and participants should bring any tools that they'll need to create their sculpture.

There is no charge to enter the contest, but registration is required the day of the contest. Registration will begin at 10:30 a.m. There is no pre-registration. Visit www.fairfieldpal.org for more information.
