The Pequot Library plans to celebrate May Day with a Shakespearean accent this spring with a choral salute to the Bard.

The concert is set for 8 p.m. Friday at the library, 720 Pequot Ave.

The 16-voice Music on the Hill Chamber Chorus will perform a program featuring Shakespeare's words in a variety of musical interpretations. David H. Connell will conduct the chorus.

Some of the works to be performed, according to publicity for the event, will include "Three Shakespeare Songs" by British composer Ralph Vaughan Williams; "Songs and Sonnets from Shakespeare" by British jazz pianist George Shearing, as well as modern reinterpretations from musicals such as Leonard Bernstein's "West Side Story" and Cole Porter's "Kiss Me, Kate."

Tickets for the concert are $25 in advance at www.pequotlibrary.org, or $30 at the door.
