A Bridgeport woman charged with shoplifting jewelry at Kohl's department store, 290 Tunxis Hill Road, on Wednesday morning blamed a sinister force for causing the incident, according to the police report.
"The devil made me do it," Tesla L. Brito told officers.
The 52-year-old resident of Coleman Street in Bridgeport was charged with sixth-degree larceny after police said she concealed $220 worth of jewelry in her purse.
Police said she went to the store's register and paid for other merchandise, but not the jewelry.
Brito was released on a promise to appear Jan. 29 in Bridgeport Superior Court, and also was warned by police to stay out of Kohl's.
