A New York brother and sister were charged Friday with stealing $3,000 worth of merchandise and perfume from the Victoria's Secret store in Fairfield and other outlets.
Kevin Rodriguez, 21, and Angie Rodriguez, 19, of College Point, N.Y., were stopped by police detectives after they were seen leaving the shop on the Post Road around 6:45 p.m., carrying a large tote bag. They got into a car with Georgia license plates. They were stopped by police a short distance down the road, and Kevin Rodriguez said they lived in Queens and had come to Fairfield to buy perfume.
In the trunk of the car, police said they found clothing with price tags and security devices still attached, and a homemade "booster bag" lined with tin foil to prevent detection.
An employee from the store identified the pair as having just been in the Fairfield store. A total of $1,123 worth of merchandise was taken from the Fairfield location, while $1,800 in goods was from other Victoria's Secret locations, police said.
Both were charged with third-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit third-degree larceny and possession of a shoplifting device. Each was held on a $2,500 bond and they are scheduled to appear May 17 in Bridgeport Superior Court.
