A brother and sister from Fairfield finished first out of 7,000 participants in a recent 5K walk to benefit the National Kidney Foundation at New York City's South Street Seaport.

Matthew Podolsky, 17, and his sister, Meghan Podolsky, 13, walked in honor of their dad, Fred Podolsky, who received a kidney transplant 10 years ago, according to the foundation.

Fred Podolsky is a board member of the National Kidney Foundation Serving Greater New York.

The siblings joined with family and friends to raise $11, 824 for the foundation.

More than 300 teams walked and collectively raised more than $718,000 for the foundation's programs, including public and professional education, kidney health screenings, patient advocacy and research grants.
