A 16-year-old boy who collided with a car while skateboarding Friday night on North Benson Road was reported to be in a coma Monday at Bridgeport Hospital, where he is being treated for his injuries.

The youth suffered "serious" injuries when struck by a vehicle about 8:30 p.m. Friday, according to firefighters dispatched to the scene.

The teen, a Fairfield resident, was not identified by police.

The incident remained under investigation this week, but no charges have been issued against the driver.

The skateboarding incident was the first of four serious accidents that kept Fairfield firefighters busy Friday night and early Saturday.

Fairfield fire crews also were dispatched just before 2 a.m. Saturday when a car struck a tree on Congress Street, injuring the woman driver.

The driver, who was pulled from the wreck by a bystander, was hospitalized for treatment of injuries. She was not immediately identified.

Local firefighters also joined Westport fire crews responding to both a fatal Merritt Parkway motorcycle accident late Friday and a crash between a tractor-trailer truck and an SUV on Interstate 95 early Saturday.
