A costumed cadre, both people and their pets, materialized in the heart of Southport Village under sunny skies Saturday to participate in the neighborhood’s annual Halloween parade and holiday fun.

About 250 people, an assortment of dogs and even a bunny in a stroller all filed behind a Southport Volunteer Fire Department truck to be led down Pequot Avenue to Pequot Library’s Great Lawn. There, spirited games and activities unfolded along with live music.

Tots played with themed toys in one spot, while in another, kids searched for objects buried in a pile of hay. Elsewhere, children were tested by tossing plastic spiders into a mesh net.

Amid a cascade of colorful autumn leaves, the holiday celebration was a howling success.
