Despite the recent storms that rocked Fairfield -- Hurricane Sandy and the snowy nor'easter-- the town's leaf-collection prgram is set to go forward as scheduled.

The pickups start this week on Monday (Nov. 12) and end the week of Dec. 10, for all neighborhoods outside of Greenfield Hill.

Each week bags must be curbside by 6 a.m. Monday to assure pick-up some time that week. Leaves must be in unsealed biodegradable paper bags, according to a release from the town's Department of Public Works.

Loose leaves, brush, branches, wood, grass or leaves in plastic bags or bags placed outside of the town right-of-way will not be picked up.

Greenfield Hill residents should call the town garage -- at 203-256-3177 -- Monday, Nov. 19, to arrange for leaf pickup before Thanksgiving. They may call Monday, Nov. 26, for one additional pickup.

Residents should not rake leaves into the gutter or street to prevent blocking catch basins and keep them free of leaves and debris to prevent local flooding, the DPW said.
