Republican Eric Sundman has announced his candidacy for re-election to the Representative Town Meeting in District 1.

Sundman is seeking nomination in the July 23 GOP caucus. In a news release, he said his priorities are limiting growth of the town budget and taxes to the rate of inflation; finding efficiencies in town government and the school department without cutting programs; reducing spending without reducing the quality of programs; senior tax relief; and funding for Pequot Library.

He also said he would support long-term repairs and improvements "to preserve and protect neighborhoods in Southport, Pine Creek, Old Dam and Fairfield Beach areas" and called for measures to ensure that what he called "incorrect tax assessments" do nor recur in the next property revaluation.

As chairman of the RTM Public Works and Planning Committee, Sundman said he has helped residents resolve public works-related issues such as illegal dumping and post-Sandy clean up efforts.

He is president of the Scandinavian Club, vice president of the Pine Creek Area Association, and a member of the Southport Conservancy and Sasquanaug Association for Southport Improvement,

Sundman lives in the Pine Creek beach area with his wife and son.
