Fairfield's beaches on Long Island Sound have been reopened for swimming Wednesday for the first time in the aftermath of Tropical Storm Irene.
The beach at Lake Mohegan, however, remains closed.
The Health Department banned swimming at all of the town's beaches as a precaution after the significant runoff from the 12-hour storm. The runoff could cause build up of bacteria in public swimming areas.
