Pequot Library Association will present a "Child's Play in Pequot's Historical Collection" program during its annual meeting at 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11, in the library's auditorium, 720 Pequot Ave.
George Miles, the William Robertson Coe curator at the Yale Collection of Western Americana, Beinecke Rare Book & Manuscript Library, will present digital images of rare book primers that are part of a 2,000-item subset of materials within Pequot Library's Special Collections of 30,000 items.
Primers within the subset, housed at Beinecke Library, include an early edition of Columbus' first letter to the king and queen of Spain and the first edition of John Eliot's translation of the Holy Bible into the language of the Massachusetts Indians. The set also contains a variety of other materials, according to a release.
Other items on display at the library include an 1865 edition of the Grimms Brothers' "The Tale of the Seven Ravens and the Devoted Sisters."
Prior to Miles' presentation, there will be a short association business meeting that will include the election of new trustees before the presentation, to be followed with a reception. Visit www.pequotlibrary.org or call 203-259-0346, ext. 15, for information.
