Fairfield Teen Theatre will conduct auditions for its Main Stage summer company and registrations for its less-intensive Magic Box program on Monday, May 21, and Tuesday, May 22, in the Fairfield Warde High School auditorium.
Auditions and registration are scheduled from 3:30 to 6 p.m. each day.
The programs are sponsored by the Fairfield Parks & Recreation Commission and are open to all Fairfield residents ages 13 to 19, the theater said in a news release.
Auditions are not required for the Magic Box program, which provides a musical-theater experience with a shorter rehearsal period than the Main Stage troupe, the theater said. Each teen who registers for Magic Box will be required to participate in fundraising and raise at least $200.
The Main Stage company will perform The Who's rock opera "Tommy." Teens planning to audition should prepare a short song in the style of the show, the theater said. Teens may audition either Monday or Tuesday. The fundraising requirement is $250.
The Magic Box production will be the pop/rock musical "13" -- the story of a New York City teen who, after his parents divorce, is forced to move to a small Indiana town, where he struggles to fit in.
Rehearsals will be Mondays through Fridays beginning July 2 at Fairfield Ludlowe High School. Performances are planned July 27 and 28.
The Main Stage company will perform a 1960s classic in "Tommy." The story involves a boy who becomes catatonic after being traumatized and is abused by relatives. But he has an uncanny knack for playing pinball, and when his catatonia is broken, he becomes an international pinball star.
Rehearsals will be Mondays through Fridays at Warde beginning June 25. Performances are planned Aug. 3, 4 5, 10, 11 and 12.
Some teens who audition for the Main Stage may be assigned roles in the Magic Box production, the theater said.
The pit orchestra for "Tommy" requires drums, percussion, strings, electric bass, two guitars, two French horns, and two keyboards.
The theater also is seeking teens for backstage crews for both productions. Hours are flexible and experience is helpful, but not required, the theater said. Help is needed on set construction and crews for stage/running , make-up and costumes.
