Eighteen-year-old Robert Simonton, address unknown, was charged Saturday with possession of marijuana after being reported by a security officer at Fairfield University.

An officer was dispatched to a room in Jogues Hall to investigate a complaint about loud music. Simonton, who is not a student at the university, came to the door. While the officer was talking to him, the officer allegedly smelled marijuana, police said. When Simonton was asked to empty his pockets, he allegedly produced a single joint.

Simonton told police he brought the marijuana cigarette to the Fairfield University campus so he could smoke with friends.

Released on a promise to appear, he is scheduled to appear May 2 in Bridgeport Superior Court.
