Sean Gaffney, 18, of Alma Drive, was arrested on a warrant Monday, charged with driving under the influence by an operator under 21.
Gaffney was driving north on Sasco Hill Road about 9:15 p.m. July 19 when he lost control of his car and drove onto the road's shoulder, police said. He traveled 208 feet before hitting a telephone, uprooting several bushes along the way, according to the report.
When officers arrived on the accident scene, Gaffney was sitting outside of the car, with a bloody nose. They said an odor of alcohol could be detected on his breath. Gaffney told police he didn't remember how the crash occurred, and was taken to St. Vincent's Medical Center in Bridgeport for evaluation. At the time of the accident, beer cans were found in the car's front seat, police said.
In addition to the DUI offense, Gaffney was charged with operating under suspension and failure to drive right.
He was released on a promise to appear Sept. 10 in Bridgeport Superior Court.
