Brian Meindl, 18, of Melville Avenue, was charged with trying to choke his mother during an argument at their home Wednesday night.

Police said they received a call about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday from Meindl's mother, who said during an argument with her son that he had wrapped both hands around her neck, trying to choke her, and that he also punched a hole in the wall.

The mother refused medical attention, police said, and Meindl was charged with second-degree strangulation, third-degree assault and disorderly conduct.

He was held on a $50,000 bond and was scheduled to appear Oct. 14 in Bridgeport Superior Court.
