The heat's on now that the calendar says it's actually summer, but there are plenty of cool things to do this weekend in Fairfield. Here's a few suggestions:
If Sunday's Fairfield Road Races' half-marathon is too much for you, there's the somewhat less challenging 5K run that gets underway at 8:30 a.m. from Jennings Beach. There are still a few spots open in the Saturday run, but sign up quickly at www.fairfieldhalf.org or just watch the spectacle from the sidelines (either day) and then join the after-party at the beach.
Looking to save some money? Saturday's session on advanced couponing is just the ticket then. The session starts at 11 a.m. at the Fairfield Public Library, 1080 Post Road. There is no charge, but registration is required. Call 203-256-3155 or visit www.fairfieldpubliclibrary.org.
Do a little singing and dancing around the Maypole at 11 a.m. Saturday at the annual Scandinavian Midsummer Celebration at the Scandinavian Club, 1351 South Pine Creek. Admission is free. Visit www.thescandinavianclub.com for more information.
Get into the swing of things Sunday when the Fairfield Counts Big Band Orchestra performs a free concert at 7 p.m. at the Sherman Green gazebo, Post and Reef roads. If the weather seems iffy, call 203-256-3144 to see if the show is still on.
