If getting ready for the school days ahead has got you in a daze, take a for break for late-summer fun in Fairfield this weekend:

Be transported to Greece simply by heading over to Greek Taverna Night on Friday from 8 p.m. to midnight at Penfield Pavilion, 323 Fairfield Beach Road. The Mediterranean-themed night features music, dance, food and drinks sponsored by the American Hellenic Education Progressive Assoviation. Tickets are $10 and benefit the AHEPA scholarship fund. There will be bargains with benefits Saturday when the Roger Ludlowe High School Class of 1980 holds a tag sale to help a classmate stricken with ALS. The hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Fairfield Grace United Methodist Church, 1089 Fairfield Woods Road.

Harken back to the days of drive-in movies Saturday when Trinity Episcopal Church sponsors a free, outdoor screening of "E.T. -- The Extra Terrestrial" at 7:30 p.m. in the chruch parking lot, corner of Pequot Avenue and Center Street in the Southport section of town. The movie is open to the public, and food and drinks will be available for purchase.

"Bagels, Babka and Balabustas" will be the topic of discussion as part of the exhibit, "One Hundred Years of Jews and Food in America" on Saturday at Congregation Beth El, 1200 Fairfield Woods Road. The event begins at 7:30 p.m. with dinner, followed by Havdalah and the program at 8:30 p.m. The cost is $10 per person, which includes dinner. Cap off the weekend with a picnic at Calvin United Church of Christ, 901 Kings Highway, from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday. On the menu will be stuffed cabbage, chicken paprikas, beef gulyas, stuffed chicken legs and more, including homemade Hungarian pastries.
