Well, it's here. That weekend that some dread and others greet with relief -- the last summer weekend before a new school year starts. If you're looking to cram in as much fun as possible this weekend, we've come up with a few ways to do it in Fairfield:
If you're out shopping for ingredients for interesting school lunches, swing by Whole Foods, 350 Grasmere Ave., for a free Chestnut Valley Charcuterie tasting Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
You'll also want to pick up snacks to nibble on when attending a free drive-in movie screening of "Finding Nemo" at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Trinity Episcopal Church, corner of Pequot Avenue and Center Street. The movie will be shown outdoors on two big screens. In case of rain, the movie will be shown Sunday. Visit www.trinitysouthport.org or call 203-2555-0454.
On Sunday, visit Congregation Ahavath Achim, 1571 Stratfield Road, for a crafts and vendors sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event features 20 crafters and vendors, along with a baked goods sale where you can pick up a variety of cakes and cookies. Parking and admission are free. For more information, call 203-372-6529.
Grab the fishing poles and the kids Sunday afternoon for the Fairfield Police Athletic League's Snapper Blue Derby from noon to 4 p.m. at the South Benson Marina. Free and open to kids ages 3 to 15, registration begins at 10:30 a.m. Prizes will be awarded. Bait will be provided by Jimmy O's Bait & Tackle. Call 203-254-4800 for more information.
Finish off the weekend with a Sunday concert by the Easton Banjo Society at the Sherman Green gazebo, corner of Post and Reef roads. The event, one of the final Parks and Recreation Department concerts of the season, starts at 6:30 p.m.
