Three Fairfield University students, apparently struggling to get back to shore Friday evening in their small, inflatable boat off Fairfield Beach, were plucked off the choppy waters by police without incident.

Police received a call from a Fairfield Beach resident shortly after 6:30 p.m. Friday, reporting that the trio in an Intex Explorer 300 appeared to be in distress in the wind-whipped waters of Long Island Sound.

A police boat was dispatched, and the three were transported safely back to shore.

There were no injuries, according to the report.
