An animal-adoption group is appealing for the public’s help in finding a cat the escaped from an adoption event Saturday at the Petco store in the Kings Crossing shopping center on Grasmere Avenue.

The male tabby cat, according to the Stratford Cat Project, which organized the adoption program, became “spooked” when someone tried to place it in a cage in a van that traveled to the Petco parking lot for the event. The cat — called “Roxer” — ran from the van, through the parking lot, down an embankment, across Grasmere Avenue and was lost in the former industrial site across the street.

The cat, described by the adoption group as large and friendly, was rescued as a stray in Shelton.

Anyone who spots the cat is asked to contact the Stratford Cat Project at 203-375-7009, as well as 203-243-5181 or 203-953-9802.
