Insecticides, solvents and batteries are some of the materials that will be accepted Saturday at Fairfield's Hazardous Waste Collection Day.
The collection will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Veterans Park, Reef Road. Other accepted items include: Oven cleaners, nail polish remover, antifreeze, gasoline, car batteries, brake and transmission fluids, oil and latex-based paints, varnish and herbicides.
Volunteers are also needed to help with the waste collection from either 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. or 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Volunteers will not handle hazardous waste. To volunteer, contact Michael Zembruski at 203-256-3023 or email@example.com.
Since May 1990, the member municipalities of HazWaste Central have disposed of or recycled more than 1 million gallons of hazardous waste. Instructions on how to dispose of a variety of materials can be found on the Fairfield Solid Waste and Recycling Center website.
