A lightning strike shattered a tree next to a Surrey Lane home Thursday morning, causing part of the tree to topple onto the garage roof and part of the main living area.

Firefighters said no one was injured.

The tall tree was growing about 5 feet from the garage attached to the two-story home at 360 Surrey Lane. The lightning bolt sheared off most of the tree's boughs, leaving only a portion of the trunk standing in its wake.

The incident took place about 11:30 a.m.
