FAIRFIELD — After confronting a thief he found inside his car Monday afternoon, a man was taken to a local hospital for injuries to both his lower legs.

A customer at Bed, Bath & Beyond came out of the store just after 4:40 p.m. to find the victim lying in the parking lot, bleeding from his head and screaming for help.

According to police, the victim, who works nearby, was walking to his car at the end of the workday and saw someone inside the car. The victim confronted the would-be thief, and the suspect got into a black Ford F-250 pickup truck in order to flee the scene. The victim grabbed onto the moving truck, according to police, and was thrown to the ground and then struck by the truck. Patrols were unable to locate the truck, which had New York registration plates.

A witness said the truck was seen heading eastbound on Kings Highway East toward Grasmere Avenue.

The victim was treated at St. Vincent’s Medical Center for serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Anyone with information regarding this vehicle or the suspect involved in the theft is asked to call the Fairfield Police Department at (203) 254-4808, or Text-a-Tip to CRIMES (274637).
