First Church Congregational is trying to enlist 250 volunteers to work on a variety of service projects during its annual Day of Service on Sunday, Sept. 21.

The church has lined up two dozen projects requiring various levels of skill. Among the projects are minor home repairs, painting, installing a brick patio at a senior housing unit, rebuilding kayak racks and cooking for Operation Hope's homeless shelter.

The work will be done during a six-hour period, followed by a barbecue and interfaith prayer service on the Town Hall Green

The day will begin with a dedication ceremony in First Church's 148 Beach Road parking lot, followed by work on projects from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., sponsors said. The barbecue and prayer service are planned for 5:30 p.m.
