Wakeman Boys and Girls Club in the Southport section of town plans a fundraiser Friday to aid disaster relief efforts in earthquake-devastated Nepal.

The event, called the “Ball for Nepal,” is set from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at the club, 385 Center St. Youngsters in third through 12th grades are invited to attend.

Participants will pay $1 for an attempt to make a lay-up, free throw and three-pointer in under 20 seconds. For $5, participants will attempt a lay-up, free throw and half-court shot in under 30 seconds. Winners will receive prizes donated by Shake Shack, Dairy Queen and Rawley’s of Fairfield.

Shake Shack will also supply vanilla and chocolate frozen custard free for all attendees.

Proceeds of the event will be donated to the MercyCorps delivering emergency hygiene kits and solar lamps, food and other necessities to people affected the earthquake.
