Five members of the Wakeman Boys & Girls Club in Southport have won national art awards from the Boys & Girls Clubs of America.

They are among 37 winners in the organization's national Fine Arts Exhibit. The local club members received the awards recently after judging last spring in four age divisions and 10 media categories.

Local winners are:

Juliette Savarino, 7, watercolor category for her piece "Watermelon."

Bridget Yates, 11, multicolored-drawing category for her piece "Untitled."

Pauline Blatt, 15, pastel category for her piece "Cubes."

Annie Silk, 14, sculpture category for her piece "Untitled."

Mary Kate McTague, 17, collage category for her piece "Traveling."

Their artwork was displayed at Wakeman, then selected by judges to move on to a regional exhibit where it was chosen to move on to national exhibition and judging in Atlanta, the club said in a news release.

Wakeman offers a variety of art programs in different media.
