Weston's Guerin wins singles title at USTA National Open

FAIRFIELD SKIIERS CHAMPS: For the first time in school history, the Fairfield Warde/Ludlowe co-op boys and girls ski teams both completed undefeated seasons while winning CT Interscholastic Ski League championships. The girls beat Staples by .86 seconds to finish 17-0 while winning the Class L and State Open titles. Brooke Mackno was the State Open giant slalom and slalom champion. The boys team beat Ridgefield by 1.2 seconds to finish 22-0 while also winning the Class L and State Open titles. Jake Mason was the State Open giant slalom champion.

GUERIN WINS USTA TITLE: Weston sophomore Kimmy Guerin won the 16-and-under girls singles division at the USTA National Open in Erie, Pa.

Guerin, the Connecticut Post most valuable player last year, seeded fourth, beat No. 3 Monica Lin of Schaumburg, Ill., 7-6, 7-6 in the championship match, her fifth victory of the tournament. She is ranked second in the 16-and-under age group in the USTA New England. As a freshman, Guerin led Weston to the SWC and Class S championships and won the girls singles title at the State Open.
