An eclectic weekend guide of things to do in Fairfield:

Herald the weekend -- and the holidays -- on Friday with the town's annual Christmas tree lighting on Town Hall Green, with special guests Santa and Mrs. Claus. Music gets under way at 6:15 p.m., and the towering fir tree is illuminated to the amazement of all at 7 o'clock. Visit www.fairfieldrecreation.org for details.

And the Holiday Express Train Show at the Fairfield Museum and History Center, 370 Beach Road, gets under way Friday evening as well, from 7 to 9 p.m. On Saturday, take your model trains to the history center for an appraisal Saturday starting at 2 p.m. More information can be found at www.fairfieldhs.org or call 203-259-1598.

Appreciate the photography of Guy Sherman at an exhibit that opens at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Pequot Library, 720 Pequot Ave. Details can be found at www.pequotlibrary.com.

Sunday is the last chance to visit the annual Fairfield Christmas Tree Festival at the historic Burr Homestead, 739 Old Post Road. Check www.fairfieldchristmastreefestival.com for more details.

Finish off the weekend listening to the music of Darian Cunning and the Ryan Montbleau Band at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the Fairfield Theatre Co. in the heart of downtown on Sanford Street. Tickets and info at www.fairfieldtheatre.org.
