A skunk that bit a woman working in a Sunnieholme Drive yard on Aug. 10 tested positive for rabies, according to police.

The incident, reported about 5:45 p.m. that day, occurred when the skunk emerged from the bushes and attacked the woman. Animal control officers found the skunk in a chicken coop in the yard, where it was trapped and killed.

The carcass was sent to the state Department of Health for testing and it was found to be infected with rabies.
