Wendy Saltus, 42, of Post Road East in Westport, was charged with sixth-degree larceny and interfering with an officer after an incident Saturday afternoon at Bob's Store, 889 Post Road.
According to the report, Saltus was seen on the store's surveillance video taking merchandise from the store out to her car. She sat in the car for a short time, and store employees made note of her car's license plate number. Saltus then came back into the store, without the goods, and began to put more clothing into a handbag. She was stopped by store employees when she tried to leave for the second time.
At first, police said, Saltus gave them false information about the items that were in her car. She gave officers permission to search her car and a bag with $437 worth of clothing was found in plain view. She had no receipts for the items, which all still had their price tags on them.
She was released on a promise to appear April 16 in Bridgeport Superior Court.
