Two Stamford women face charges after police said they tried to steal $1,401 worth of power tools from Home Depot, 541 Kings Highway Cutoff, on Friday morning.

They got into a physical scuffle when security guards tried to stop them, police said.

Gretchen Durette, 40, of no known address in Stamford, and Tori Fitts, 45, of Myano Lane, Stamford, were both charged with third-degree robbery, fourth-degree larceny and conspiracy to commit fourth-degree larceny.

According to the report, store security personnel saw the pair put several power tools into a shopping cart and try to leave the store. A security guard grabbed the arm of one of the two suspects and they both fell to the ground. The second woman, the report said, tried to get the security guard to let go of her partner, and also kicked a second security guard.

They were both released on a promise to appear Dec. 19 in Bridgeport Superior Court.
