FAIRFIELD — Police are investigating an attempted robbery at Milk Plus, 170 Post Road, just after 9 p.m. Sunday.

Police were notified about the incident by the store’s alarm company after a panic alarm was activated. The alarm company had contacted the store, but told police that a man answered the phone and then quickly hung up.

The store owner said two men had entered the convenience store, and while one stayed near the door, the other approached the counter, displayed a black handgun and demanded money.

He said he told the would-be robber that he had no money in the store. During the encounter, he said the phone rang and he told the caller to call police.

The men then fled. Nothing was taken during the incident and no one was injured. Police are reviewing security video from the shopping center for more information.
